We are proud of our achievements – we recycle over 85% of each vehicle. We were one of the first Auto Dismantlers to be registered with the Environment Agency in the early 1990’s and again one of the first linked by computer direct to D.V.L.A. in 2005. We are proud to announce our partnership with Car Take Back the Government backed initiative for the North East ensuring car manufacturers meet legislation for de-polluting and recycling.
Backworth have been scrapping cars since the early 90’s. It was always our aim to become one of the premier scrap vehicle businesses in the Newcastle and Tyneside area. Our humble beginnings from a small yard in Newcastle to a thriving scrap car business.
Backworth believes in strong relationships with our clients and we strive to provide the best scrappage service we possibly can for them. Our business is scrap cars and we provide a highly efficient and effective economic green solution.
When we receive the vehicle is depolluted. This involves draining liquid and gasses which would be harmful if released to the environment for example, petrol, motor oil, brake fluids. Once the car is “dry” a certificate of destruction is issued and we then start the process of carefully removing parts for reuse.
Clearly we exceed the EU directive to recycle at least 85% of the cars weight, nothing is wasted from our process and all the parts we cannot reuse or re-engineer will be shredded, so the materials can be separated and recovered. Our primary recycling objective is to reduce waste and we believe the best way to achieve this is to find innovative ways of supplying high quality, tested and warranted parts direct to the garages, so cars can be repaired economically rather than being needlessly scrapped.
If a vehicle can be repaired economically for re-use it will be, if not we will extract and keep parts that are good quality and can be re-used. Parts are cleaned and inspected for damage. Electrical parts like alternators and starter motors are quality tested before re-selling.
Some parts can be used again following necessary repair or re-engineering work. For example; replacing seals and springs so we can give assurance that the refurbished part will have a good service life.
If parts cannot be re-used or re-manufactured, then many components and parts can be recycled. This involves breaking parts down into their component materials so they can be re-processed into new things.
Even if we can’t re-use, re-manufacture or recycle some materials, it may be possible to recover the energy from certain parts of an end-of-life car. The most obvious example is engine oil, this often contains impurities and cannot just be re-used. However, properly collected waste oil can be refined to produce a valuable energy resource.
We buy and recycle End of Life Vehicles that are not suitable to be on the road.
